Jay Chou’s new album “Capricorn” had an outstanding performance in sales, selling over 90,000 copies alone during the pre-order period – a record for highest pre-order sales in the history of the industry! Sales across Asia soared to an all time high of 887,000 copies sold - proving that the album is doing very well despite the music industry in a decline and the threat of piracy. Sales records aside, the press conference for this year’s album launch was just as memorable; opening with a showdown between the Joker and the Magician!

Jay’s style resounded in the opening sequence of the press conference, the presence of two magicians failed to drown the aura of Asia’s King of Pop – Jay Chou. Jay stirred up a storm upon entering the stage, focusing all the attention on himself. To celebrate the record breaking pre-order success of Pres Chou’s 9th studio album, Jay along with JVR’s director, Rong Jun Yang and Sony BMG’s (Asia) CEO Cui Zhen Dong opened bottles of red wine and poured the wine into an ice scripture with the words “JAY” – turning the ice scripture bright red in colour – to signify the continued success of the 9th album!

周董童心未泯 搭乘「時光機」 穿梭任意門

記者會上播放了周董前一晚熬夜剪接出的最新MV「時光機」,這一首歌的誕生可說是「小叮噹」漫畫的真人版! 希望可以坐著時光機回到過去、改變未來他把南拳媽媽張傑送他的小叮噹造型吉他帶入鏡,相當有趣 !
Pres Chou also premiered the MV of the song “Time Machine” – which he just finished editing the night before. The idea behind this song (and MV) first came about from having a real life “Doraemon”, travelling in a time machine to change the past where NQMM’s Zhang Jie presents to him a guitar created by Doraemon – a rather interesting concept!
如果真有時光機,周董最想改變什麼呢?他透露以前養的狗不見了,很想坐時光機去把牠找回來。還說:「想要到 未來看看我的音樂還存不存在,因為我覺得影響力很重要!」有趣的是曾經在日本因與陳奕迅打招呼而被狗仔跟拍 的他說:「如果有時光機,我不想再去日本代官山,也不要跟陳奕迅say嗨。因為感情在大家的眼光下,對女生 來說比較辛苦,當我女朋友很可憐。」周董看好友一個個結婚會有想婚的念頭嗎?他表示很滿意現在自己單身的身 分,直說單身很好!結婚還早!
So what does Pres Chou really wants to change if there really is a time machine? Jay revealed that his pet dog went missing in the past, and he would really love to travel back in time to bring it back. He continued, “I (also) want to go to the future to see if my music is still as influential, because I feel that the influence in my music is very important!” Interestingly, when asked about the incident in Japan where he run into Eason Chan and was spotted by the paparazzi (and his relationship with Patty Hou was exposed) when they stopped and chat, “If I have a time machine, I would not have travelled to Tokyo back then, (that way) I would not have said ‘Hi’ to Eason. Everyone feels that it is more taxing on the female in a relationship, it is not easy to be my girlfriend indeed.” So does Jay have any thoughts on starting his own family after seeing his good friends tying the knot one after another? He stated that he is very satisfied with his bachelorhood status and it is still early to think about marriage!
新專輯名為「魔杰座」,周董相信星座理論嗎?他說:「以前還蠻相信的,例如追求完美主義還蠻準的,不過後來 發現並不是所有魔羯座的個性都一樣,所以還是相信自己。」周董新作「稻香」讓很多人有共鳴,「時光機」又將 擄掠小朋友的心,似乎在他身上看得出童心未泯?他說:「沒錯,我就是一個小孩,也許40、50歲時也會和自 己的小孩搶遊戲機。」
With the new album being named “Capricorn”, does Jay believe in horoscopes? Jay eleborated, “I used to believe it in the past, things such as my characteristic of being a perfectionist were pretty accurate. But I later discovered that not all Capricorns share the same characteristics, so I’d rather believe in myself.” Jay’s first single “Paddy Fragrance” struck a heartwarming chord with many while “Time Machine” was intended to portray the innocence and mentality of a child. So was Jay trying to portray his own childhood innocence? He explained, “That’s right. I am still a kid. I will still play with my toys I had when I was younger when I am 40 or 50 years old.”
周董坦承近來練魔術已經到了有點走火入魔的地步,會想藉著魔術讓生活改變什麼嗎?周董說:「生活上多點分身 !多點時間給歌迷,一個人不夠用。」忙碌的他有太多身份,歌手、創作人、演員、導演,幾乎是分身乏術!而常 常搭飛機到各地工作的他更是突發奇想說:「我想打開小叮噹的任意門,這樣就可以不用搭飛機了。 」
Pres Chou admitted that he has been practicing his magic tricks to an extent that it was rather extreme. So will Jay use magic to change any aspects of his life? Pres Chou exclaimed, “(I should play) more roles and do more things in life! (Such as giving myself more time, so that) I can give the fans more of my attention, (and give myself more time because) I don’t have enough time for myself.” Pres Chou is already playing many roles in his life, being a singer, producer, actor, director, sometimes all of it at one go! He even has a wild fantasy about his frequent flying around the world for work, “I want to open the Pandora’s Box (time machine) that Doraemon possess, that way, I no longer need to travel by plane.”
新專輯11首歌內容相當豐富,每支MV都是精心打造後推出,之前光是「龍戰騎士」這首歌至少就已經燒掉了4 00萬,在11首歌全部都會拍成MV的狀況下,估計將花費近2000萬的拍攝預算,超越過去每張專輯的MV 總預算,不計成本拍到最完美!他說:「給歌迷看就要看最好的!我認為MV是永久的記憶,所以值 得!」
The new album comes rich in content with 11 tracks. Every MV is released after careful planning and editing. Judging from the cost of the MV to “Dragon Fighter” – costing TWD $4 million, the cost of producing all 11 MVs from the album will cost well over TWD $20 million, exceeding the MV production costs of all previous albums in total. Jay explained that cost is not the main concern, “(I want to) give the fans the very best! I believe that MVs do leave a long lasting impression, so it is well worth every cent!”
